Animal Emergencies Illustrate Need for Disease Traceability System
(May 2, 2007) Recent cases of pseudorabies in Wisconsin swine and a weather emergency in Colorado have demonstrated in real life how premises registration can protect livestock producers, their animals and the livestock industry. Until now, the benefits of premises registration have been “what if?” scenarios. This is no longer the case. The need for producers to participate in premises registration is more evident in light of these recent events.

State’s Animal Identification Movement Gains Momentum
(February 22, 2007) The Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium (WLIC) membership elected new board members and officers during its annual meeting held this week. New board members include Chuck Adami, Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association; Dr. Ole Meland, Accelerated Genetics; and Mike Salter, Wisconsin Pork Association. Patrick Fitzgibbons, representing Peck Meat Packing, was re-elected to the board.
Voluntary Animal ID Cost Sharing Program Enhanced
(January 22, 2007) Wisconsin farmers taking part in the Voluntary Animal ID Cost Sharing Program will benefit under recent changes in the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) program. The cost share has been increased to cover 50% of the cost of a DATCP-approved Radio Frequency ID (RFID) tag or up to $1.00 per approved tag for every animal in the herd.
Over 54,000 Livestock Premises Registered To Date - Livestock Premises Renewal Information Due
(December 14, 2006) As part of the Wisconsin Premises Registration Act, a livestock premises will be required to renew their information annually with the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).

Voluntary Animal ID Cost Sharing Program Offered to Producers
(November 15, 2006) The state of Wisconsin is inviting livestock producers to participate in a voluntary animal identification (ID) program. With a premises registration system in place, the state wishes to support those producers who are ready to begin recording individual animal ID and animal movement information as the next steps of the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). The purpose of voluntary animal ID is to provide a starting point of where an animal has been in its life. Knowing this information will assist animal health officials in preventing the spread of disease in the event of an outbreak. In addition, an effective animal ID system can be beneficial for on-farm herd management.

(November 6, 2006) The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has released official Animal Identification Numbers (AIN) as part of the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). The Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium (WLIC) and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) are continuing to implement the NAIS within Wisconsin with voluntary animal identification.
Wisconsin Continues to Lead the Nation - State Reaches 50,000 Livestock Premises Registered
(June 23, 2006) Wisconsin has registered 50,000 livestock premises as the state continues to move forward in implementing the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). The H5N1 strain of the virus that has been so much in the news hasn't been found in North America, and there's no certainty it will ever make its way to the nation's domestic flocks. Dr. John R. Clifford, Deputy Administrator for USDA - Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services - Veterinary Services’ program spoke to approximately 40 representatives of various Wisconsin livestock groups and organizations.
January 1st Premises Registration Reminder for Livestock Owners
(December 22, 2005) The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) and the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium (WLIC) are issuing a reminder to livestock owners not currently licensed by the DATCP who keep, house or co-mingle livestock to register their premises by January 1, 2006. Those premises currently licensed by DATCP must register by their annual license renewal dates.

(August 29, 2005) It is hardly a surprise that the Tauchen Harmony Valley dairy just outside Bonduel, WI, has been registered as a livestock premises under a new state law that will become effective late this fall. The Shawano County dairy supports two generations of farmers, parents and four brothers, as well as fourteen employees. What may be a surprise to many small livestock producers, hobbyists and even individuals owning a few animals for pleasure, is that they too must register their sites under the new law.

WLIC Expands Membership Base, Holds Board Elections
(March 2, 2005) – The Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium (WLIC) now has 58 members representing livestock industry groups working to implement the National Animal Identification System in Wisconsin. Due to a larger membership base, the WLIC Board of Directors has been expanded to 12 members.

(February 1, 2005) – Wisconsin livestock producers are responding to the call of voluntary premises registration. Since the first of this year, more than 1,375 Wisconsin farm premises have been registered. This record number is 29% of the total premises registered so far.
