Livestock premises registration is the first step you can take to protect your investment in Wisconsin's livestock industry. A database of locations where livestock are produced, raised and kept, will aid animal health officials. A system with proper trace back and trace forward capabilities provides timely response to minimize the economic impact in the event of an animal disease outbreak.
The Wisconsin Livestock Premises Registration Act requires anyone who keeps, houses, or co-mingles livestock to register their premises. Premises that are not currently licensed by the DATCP are required to register.
How do I register?
1. Register online at www.datcp.state.wi.us/premises/index.jsp and click on the link for Premises Registration System.
2. Registrants may call 1-888-808-1910 to request a form or print the form here. To print the instructions form click here.
3. Visit your county Farm Service Agency (FSA) office to pick up information and a premises registration form.
Registering a livestock premises doesn’t obligate the registrant to participate in animal ID or animal tracing.
"Livestock," as defined by WI Premises Registration Rules
Includes:
· bovine (bison, dairy and beef cattle)
· equine (horses, donkeys, mules)
· goats
· poultry (chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, guinea fowl, and squab)
· captive game birds (pheasants, quail, wild turkeys, migratory wildfowl, pigeons, and exotic birds,)
· sheep
· swine (other than wild hogs but including pot belly pigs)
· farm raised deer (elk, moose, caribou, reindeer, and the subfamily musk deer)
· camelids (llamas, alpacas)
· ratites (rheas, ostriches, emu, cassowary, kiwi)
· fish (aquaculture farm)
Not included:
· Rabbits
· Dogs
· Cats
