WLIC Continues Free Tag Startup Program for Wisconsin Producers

VERONA, WI - December 16, 2010 — The Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium (WLIC) is again offering a free official ID tag startup program to Wisconsin livestock producers.

The updated program, introduced at this year’s World Dairy Expo, offers matched visual panel tags and Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) button tags to beef and dairy producers who participate. The program allows producers to choose from Allflex or Destron Fearing manufacturers for their free half duplex, USDA approved RFID tags.

Sheep and goat producers can receive RFID tags that also qualify for the official USDA Scrapie Eradication Program, while pork producers can attain either free RFID tags, or the pork industry supported premises ID tags, depending on their preference.

Wisconsin livestock producers interested in participating in this one-time, free RFID and visual tag offer should contact WLIC at 1-888-808-1910 to find out if they quality for the program. Producers can also visit www.livestockvantage.com or www.wiid.org to learn more about disease traceability programs and on-farm RFID applications in Wisconsin. Sign-up sheets are available on the WLIC website for new program participants.

The mission of the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium is to create a secure livestock identification system to protect animal health and market access, and offer opportunities to enhance the marketability of Wisconsin livestock products. Representing more than 50 businesses, organizations and livestock producer associations, WLIC draws upon the collective strength of its diverse membership to help strengthen and advance animal disease traceability in Wisconsin and the nation as a whole.
