WLIC participated in the 2011 Farm Technology Days Beef Tent.
Farm Technology Days provides businesses first hand opportunity to show consumers what modern agriculture is all about. Not only provides FTD information for livestock owners about the latest tools available to them for herd management, it also provides consumers with a look into how modern farming works. WLIC participated for the 9th year in a row. This year the WLIC booth featured 2 dairy calves provided by the host farm. The goal was to show visitors of the beef tent how cattle can be properly identified and what the latest technologies for animal recording are.
With close to 45,000 visitors, Farm Technology Days provides the perfect venue to show a wide audience thru a hands-on approach why livestock identification is important for both herd management but also traceability of livestock beyond the farm, ensuring continued consumer confidence in the food supply. WLIC staff was on hand to answer questions.
For 4 years the Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium was able to provide free RFID tags to livestock producers, unfortunately this program has come to an end at this time. Since the start of the program over 225,000 tags were provided to farms across Wisconsin. Many producers have found value in using these tags for herd management purposes. If you are interested in AIN RFID tags and want to learn more about how to incorporate on your farm please download the Incorporating RFID on your Farm resource sheet. This resource sheet contains different tips as far as items you need to consider before you start buying any equipment or software. If you have further questions, feel free to call WLIC at 888-808-1910. You can also read about have several farms have incorporated RFID by going to the Information RFID Resources page on this website.
The Wisconsin Livestock Identification Consortium (WLIC) will implement an animal identification and information system following nationally established standards. This will support the protection of animal health by fostering cooperation and understanding.
